Mario Leko (b. 1982, HR) initially studied Visual Art and then went on to study Fashion at the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb. At the same time, he worked as an assistant costume designer in theatre, ballet and opera. In 2006, he started working in Croatia as a freelance costume designer and scenographer in the performing arts. In 2014, he earned a Bachelor in Film and Video at the Arts Academy in Split. Video and especially photography have a big influence on his artistic approach and are very prominent in his work. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Croatia, France, Belgium, Israel and Bulgaria. After an Erasmus semester in Ghent in 2014, Mario decided to stay in Belgium, in search of new perspectives for his work in theatre, photography and video. As a way of furthering this crossover, multimedia approach, he followed a Master study programme at the Maastricht Academy of Performing Arts and developed his first autonomous production there.
