Astrid De Haes & Abel Ghekiere

Astrid De Haes (b. 1996) started dancing at the age of six, and has been keenly interested in movement and the body ever since. Fascinated by dance and experimentation, De Haes earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Fine Arts at the School of Arts|KASK Ghent. During her studies, she decided to include other media (photography, film, writing, etc.) in her practice and explore the (moving) body as a medium in all of its complexity. To this end, she did an internship in 2017 at the School for New Dance Development at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. In her Bachelor’s study, she made connections between various mediums and the body, such as in Hommes (video), Dansbingo (performative game played by performers and audience) and Volume I (installation). For her Master's, she developed further as a director and choreographer by doing preliminary research for the dance performance Untitled.
