Dounia Mahammed en Roos Nieboer

Dounia Mahammed (b. 1990) graduated in 2015 in Drama from the School of Arts|KASK Ghent. Her work shows a special feeling for language, humour and visual thinking.

In her graduation project Salut Copain (2015), she used language as a medium for philosophizing, dreaming, drawing, vacillating and questioning on stage. In August 2016, she won the Sabam prize for young playwrights at the Theater aan Zee Festival in Oostende with this production. In her solo w a t e r w a s w a s s e r (2017) – presented earlier at Love at first Sight#2 – she looked for a new way of communicating, in which her whimsical associations and movements carried on a poetic dialogue with the music of Alan Van Rompuy. This collaboration is being continued in 2021 with a new show, Galm. Meanwhile, Dounia has been busy writing various plays, including Ophelia, a production by Inne Goris in collaboration with LOD muziektheater, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen & hetpaleis. Dounia Mahammed has been in residence at wpZimmer since 2015.
