Traumafestival

The Traumafestival collective consists of Gökhan Girginol, Yanu Schepens, Ali Can Unal, Tim Vermorgen, Gökhan Kizilbuga and Winne Verbrugghe. When they formed the collective, they asked two teachers from RITCS teachers to participate in its operation: Tania Van der Sanden and Edward Rooze. They share Traumafestival’s ideas about making theatre, in which solidarity, anarchy and theatricality are key concepts. Two areas of research stand out in this regard: circus and nomadic theatre. “These are two forms that essentially may not be so far apart; they both represent folksiness and communality, and they both embody the world of unpretentious imagination.”

Gökhan Girginol (b. 1988) obtained his Master’s in Directing at the RITCS School of Arts in 2012. Among other things, he directed the production Robin Hassan Hood, a creation supported by C-mine and KVS (2015). Prior to that he made Herzaman (2013), a theatre project in which Gökhan examined the lives of his Turkish compatriots working in the mines of Genk. He also made Waiting, which was supported by the Moussem production house, Toneelhuis and the Belgrade International Theatre Festival (BITEF, 2008). This small show, made at the invitation of Iraqi theatre maker Mokhallad Rasem, took a contemporary look at Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, with the underlying question: “What does ‘waiting’ mean?”

Yanu Schepens (b. 1995) obtained his Master’s in Directing at the RITCS School of Arts in 2020.

Actor and director Ali Can Unal (b. 1985) earned his Master’s in Directing at the RITCS School of Arts in 2019. He is professionally active as a coach for the Ghent collective Jong Gewei, under the artistic direction of theatre maker Haider Al-Timimi, and in City Zoom, a young people’s theatre and film organization in Brussels.

Gökhan Kizilbuga (b. 1983) began his Drama studies in Directing at the RITCS School of Arts in 2018. In 2019, he directed the solo project Kantje Boordje and an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's Een vijand van het volk (An Enemy of the People). In 2013, Gökhan Kizilbuga won the Limbomania comedy competition.

Winne Verbrugghe (b. 1998) completed her Master's in Drama/Acting at the RITCS School of Arts in 2020. She made and performed in Dirk (Futur Liquide, Theater Antigone), performed in Alter ego (RITCS, Master's Exam of Jamy Hollebeke) and in Woyzeck: Misery’s the river of the world (RITCS, Bachelor's Exam of Abattoir Fermé)

Tim Freddy G. Vermorgen (b. 1979) caught the live sound bug at the Rock in Wervik Festival and went on to work with Gaz Coombes (Supergrass), Tiny Legs Tim & Steven Troch, Kris Jefferson, Popa Chubby, Neal Black, Bernard Egger, Mike Lattrell, Gabriel Rios, Etienne Delport, Wim Soutaer.... After an active career as a technician, he started studying again at the age of 39 at the RITCS School of Arts, where he among other things developed a solo with Yanu Schepens. He is responsible for the production management of Paragypsiet.
