Re-Claiming Space

Khadija El Kharraz Alami

In each presentation of Re-Claiming Space, Khadija El Kharraz Alami invites someone different to share the stage with her: a performer, artist, actor, writer, ordinary person, dancer... invariably a woman. You witness their first meeting. Re-Claiming Space is an investigation into the space of being a woman and how to transcend that space. In this performance, Khadija manifests female beauty, vulnerability, extraordinary voices, the physical and underexposed female perspectives. "I'm re-claiming space by sharing space." Her research is inspired by Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés and Your Silence Will Not Protect You by Audre Lorde, among others. Khadija's work process is characterized by setting no prior restrictions so that the performance literally comes about on stage.
