Playfulness, abstraction and uninhibited imagination are the common thread running through Geert Belpaeme's oeuvre. From his background as theater maker, performer and teacher/researcher (KASK School of Arts Ghent), he creates performances on the borderline between theater, circus, performance, dance and philosophical experimentation. His artistic language gradually shifts toward a contemporary form of clowning.
For Geert, the clown is an instrument to represent aggression, violence, absurdity and hopelessness. In Geert's work, situations flow dynamically into one another and figures regularly change identities. He also considers social issues and actively relates to the changing world.a
