Aminata Demba

In 2018, Aminata Demba brought to LAFS#3 the documentary Pelican Street 20, about the Malian community in Antwerp, broadcast on Canvas.

And now there is AMADOU: Step into a place where the clock stops for a moment. Hang your haste on the coat rack, put aside your worries for tomorrow. Open your ears, and let yourself be transported to a world of then - but also of now. A place where stories breathe, sing and dance. For as long as people have existed, they have been telling each other stories: to understand, to remember, and to pass on wisdom.

Aminata Demba follows the path of West African griots - masters in the art of storytelling. She puts herself in the shoes of a child full of questions, and her search for answers becomes a journey full of surprises - and self-discovery.
Amadou is a musical ode to the power of stories and the rhythmic magic they bring. The performance is inspired by the work of Malian writer Amadou Hampâté Bâ, who collected and immortalized the mythical, orally transmitted stories of the Peul people.
