DIT IS ANDERS

Maria Feenstra

Someone you love is in prison.
In the audio performance DIT IS ANDERS, three voices come together: a woman, a jailer and an interviewer. You are witness to a conversation about absence, parenthood and prison. Through the creation of a fictional space, the performance is an attempt to talk about what is often pushed away.

Maria: ‘I think that moment when you most clearly realize that you miss someone, is when you suddenly see that person again after a long time. When you see him/her/them and you smile together, you are confronted with something. At such a moment you realize: “We miss this person in the family. It isn’t really complete without them.”

Spoken in Dutch

"Maria Feenstra's performance Dit is anders is also really quite different from other performances, if you can even speak of a performance. Image/Audio installation already comes closer. But the work is especially different because it is about missing, about the moment when something makes everything in a life suddenly become different, incomplete. (...) What are we missing? What happiness have we lost? Feenstra puts these questions to us in all their simplicity, but guards against answers. It shows impressive maturity. You remain silent for a very long time after the final images."- Pieter T'Jock in PZAZZ, 2 augustus 2023
