Younes van den Broeck

Younes van den Broeck (b. 1991), aka Spitler, is a visual artist. He expresses his social commitment through art, spoken word and images. His spoken word is usually critical of the social structure. He is founder of the Loods Des Doods artists’ collective and is part of the new art movement ‘Fokovism’, a reaction against all art movements and rules that are ‘rammed down your throat’ at art school. The Fokovists are against forms of education that limit an artist’s individuality, style and freedom of expression.

In May 2018, Van den Broeck received the Queen Matilde Prize for the project Beyond beats and bars (in collaboration with Commusaic vzw), in which young people between the ages of 14 and 20 have a chance to get to know one another and make a hip-hop album.
